Jennings Building: Porthcawl

The Jennings Building, the oldest listed bonded warehouse in Wales, sits at the heart of the Porthcawl Harbour regeneration area.

Historic Transformation

The Jennings Building, Wales’ oldest listed bonded warehouse, sits at the heart of the Porthcawl Harbour regeneration area. Originally built in 1832, this Grade II Listed structure had been abandoned for years before LoftCo’s restoration in 2017. The project aimed to breathe new life into the derelict warehouse, blending heritage with modern functionality.

Through a collaborative design process with CADW and the local Conservation Officer, the building was carefully restored, preserving its historic character while introducing contemporary, purpose-driven spaces.

Vibrant Community Hub

The Jennings Building now features loft-style residential units on the upper floors and three café/restaurant spaces at ground level, all with stunning views of the harbour and beach. This transformation has spurred wider development in Porthcawl, providing local entrepreneurs with a prime seafront location and creating a thriving community.

Key Features:

  • Mixed-use space for local businesses and residents
  • Seafront cafés and restaurant units
  • Sensitive restoration preserving historical character
  • 24-hour access and a thriving community

Setting a new benchmark for listed building regeneration, the Jennings Building has revitalised Porthcawl’s seafront and continues to inspire further growth in the area.
