The J Shed is a unique one-off Grade II listed warehouse overlooking the River Tawe on one side and the Royal Albert Docks on the other, within walking distance of the beach and the city centre and with excellent road communications to the M4 network. It has been converted into 20 live/work units on the first floor with commercial units on the ground floor which have been converted into restaurants, offices and a beauty & hair salon.

The J Shed is situated at the gateway of the new SA1 dockland development area of Swansea. It is within walking distance of the city centre. It really is a unique location, ideally suited for the live/work concept whereby the occupiers can use it totally as an office or as a residential apartment or a combination of both.

We have tried as much as possible to retain the existing character of the building, with the original roof trusses, brickwork and shutters. By introducing underfloor heating and cat 5 perimeter trunking to the units we have kept them as open plan as possible, with the only internal door being that of the bathroom. All the live/work units have mezzanine floors which gives a very unique and contemporary feel to the units.

The development has had much success, winning three Lord Mayor awards including ‘Best Development’. This new style of existing property use will soon become the trend in urban living. Loft-Co are the pioneers of this use in the area.
