PumpHouse RTPI Award

The PumpHouse Barry

The restoration of Barry’s historic Pumphouse has been “highly commended” by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Cymru at their annual awards ceremony.

The iconic Pumphouse is the centrepiece of the Barry Waterfront Innovation Quarter, a 19-acre site at the centre of the former docks which is being regenerated by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Welsh Government. The acclaim of the national planning body comes only days after it was announced that the building would be home to the first restaurant opened by local street food phenomenon Hang Fire Smokehouse.

Managing Director Simon Baston stated that the team “is very proud of winning the RTPI award for the Pumphouse. This has been a very exciting project to be involved with and it gives me great personal pleasure seeing this important part of Barry’s industrial heritage brought back to life.

“This has been a challenging and complex project that could not have been completed had it not been for the strong team ethic created between DS Properties, our consultants, and Vale of Glamorgan Council.”
